Zen and the Art of Estimating

Estimating can take many forms, from estimating tasks to entire projects, working with anything from a one line story to thousand pages of specs. Most people find it hard, and many people find they have a tenancy to grossly over or under estimate.

This session breaks down the different kinds of estimates you might need, when you might use them, and what the risks and benefits of different approaches are. We will also look at different tools for estimating efficiently and accurately (or at least with improving accuracy!). We will also discuss some common traps an estimator may fall into, as well as some "rules of thumb" that can be applied in different situations.
