You can expect two tracks:

  • A morning and afternoon workshop focused on UX and usability. Fill in our survey if you are interested in particular topics.
  • A series of LIVE Drupal usability tests: we'll put the new authoring experience improvements in Drupal 8 in front of brand new users, and invite all BADCamp attendees—developers, usability folks, or otherwise—to observe the results. We will also present the results at the Core Dev Summit on Sunday.

The organizers of the BADCamp UX Summit are Becky Gessler, Dharmesh Mistry, Jen Lampton, Garen Checkley and Lisa Rex.

How UX Can Work for You (Cheaply and Quickly): A Practical Guide - Becky Gessler and Garen Checkley

If you’re involved in creating websites or apps, surely you’ve heard people profess the importance of UX, but what exactly goes into creating a great User Experience? As an open-source developer, a content-writer, or an amatuer webmaster, how can you incorporate UX into your process? In this talk we’ll show you easy, simple, and quick ways to make sure your project has some UX love.

Module UX optimization - Bojhan Somers

There are more interface patterns available to Drupal module developers then ever before. Drupal has standars for writing code. But what about the interface?

Join Bojhan Somers from the UX-Team for a tour of the available options and some advice on when to use each one. Consider this talk the kick-off for getting our ui-pattern library in shape. It's been asked for a lot.

- UI-Pattrens
- Best practices (designing for context)
- Users mental model vs. Drupal's implementation model
- Experiences from the field

We'll have a look at a couple modules, explore their functionality and show you how to choose and apply the right pattern for your interface.

Role-based analysis and design - Michael Keara

Role-oriented design offers some powerful ways of taking a UX design past the boundaries of persona description and into brass-tacks UI specifications that developers can act on and users can love.

Michael Keara (User Advocate) will take you through an enjoyable game-based process, to explore some of the foundations of this technique and see how it can be used to uncover useful new questions and maybe even great new answers for some key areas of Drupal usability.

Michael Keara is a User Interface System Architect with over 20 years of experience in both development and design of desktop and web software applications. His UX consulting company is called The User Advocate Group. His perpetually unfinished web site is at www.tuag.ca

Delivering more meaningful designs through page tables - Nica Lorber

What are page tables you ask? Page tables are a tool you can leverage in the strategy phase of your web project to help better inform the structure and content of your site. Using page table will help you.
- Define the refined goals of that individual page, in context with the larger goals of the site
- Call out contextual calls to action
- Define content regions and chunks for the page
- Define primary audience
- Define the content you need to keep, delete, or create

Learn how this tool can easily be incorporated into any project and can serve as the spring board for your wire framing process.

Nica Lorber is Creative Director at Chapter Three and worked as a pioneering web animator and later as a design and technology consultant for non-profits focused on activating the youth vote.

Drupal 8 UX - Kevin O'Leary & Dharmesh Mistry

Since Drupal 7 was released many new interaction patterns have become common and older ones have evolved, both in desktop and mobile. This is a meeting to review a library that includes the current patterns in core as well as patterns added by various contrib modules and new designs, and prioritize them based on which of them will make the greatest immediate impact on improving Drupal usability. The prioritized list will be presented to the core summit on the 2nd.
